Last year volunteers of the Students’ Union at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ collected over 4 tonnes of food, donating to local food banks and in doing so helping some of the most vulnerable within our local area
This year SUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Volunteering are attempting to beat that total, with this year’s ‘Big Feed’ event taking place on 11th October 2014.
A recent study revealed that as many as 1 in 5 mothers skip meals so that they could afford to feed their children.
Six teams will be taking part in the day, each competing against one another to collect the most food possible.
Local shoppers will find our teams spread across six supermarkets in the area, where the competitors will be enlisting the help of shoppers to collect as much food they can.
Lexy Browning, SUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Volunteering Coordinator, is responsible for the event, and is keen to express how much of a difference it can make, “The event is a fantastic example of the good work inspirational young people are capable of. It allows them to gain key skills which will be of use the them later in life, and most importantly, have fun!â€
All food and money collected will be delivered to the Trussell Trust run food banks within Winton and Kinson.
