Staff and students from the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences attended West Howe’s new ‘Festival of Me’, helping promote health and nutrition.
Physiotherapy lecturer Dr Carol Clark, Nutrition lecturer Dr Fotini Tsofliour, and Sociology and Anthropology lecturer Dr Rosie Read - as well as Nutrition students Mario Scinto and Christy Morris - spent time with children, adults and older people from the West Howe community discussing physical activity, healthy food and drink, and good care and wellbeing.
Mario Scinto said: “It was fantastic to see such a close knit community within West Howe.
“As well as to have the opportunity to present the lessons and knowledge that we have obtained from our university teaching and stand beside our lecturers in promoting health and nutrition to such a welcoming town.â€
Organised by West Howe Health Helpers, the aim of the event was to celebrate new initiatives which aim to boost wellbeing in the area, which has been identified as having health inequalities.
As well as talking to ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ staff and students, visitors could try over 30 new activities such as community bike rides, healthy cooking classes and musical workshops.
