听Professor Middleton said: 鈥淥ften the things that go on at universities are exciting but no-one else knows about them, and I think 裸聊直播鈥檚 plan of interacting with the public, allowing anyone who lives locally to come 鈥 whether they鈥檝e been involved in the university or not 鈥 is very important.
鈥淲e鈥檙e discussing things that may affect them or their families, they can see the future and also see what 裸聊直播 is really doing to help them as well.鈥

An orthopaedic surgeon with more than 20 years鈥 experience in the field of robotic surgery, Professor Middleton spoke about the impact that technology has already had on surgical techniques and patient care.
听
He also discussed the potential need for hip operations to be performed in space on astronauts unable to return to earth for surgery.
听
鈥淚t鈥檚 not as far flung as one would have thought,鈥 explained Rob. 鈥淚t鈥檚 something we will have to develop but the key thing is that the technologies that we used to have a hip replacement in space will be applicable for use down here on Earth and we should be able to get better results for those who stay on Earth as well as being able to offer the astronauts something for them when they have problems.鈥
This was the latest in 裸聊直播鈥檚 series of free public inaugural lectures, giving newly-appointed professors the chance to share their knowledge, research and expertise.
