AFC Bournemouth’s under 12s took part in a mental health and wellbeing workshop, looking at supporting positive mental health and resilience.
The event took place as a part of the partnership activity conducted between AFC Bournemouth and ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥.
ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ is the official higher education partner of AFC Bournemouth, and the partnership is celebrated each year through the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Big Match, which takes place today against Nottingham Forest.
The theme of the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Big Match this year is mental health and resilience, as a way of highlighting Children’s Mental Health Week (7-13 February). The workshop with the girls’ team included discussion on where to go if you need support, how to deal with pressures on-the-pitch, and how to have resilience in everyday life.
The AFC Bournemouth team delivering the event were joined by Cherries women’s player Abby Jones. Defender Abby worked her way into the women’s team through the academy and was able to talk to the girls about some of her on-pitch experiences and how she deals with the pressure.
Steve Cuss, Head of Community at AFC Bournemouth said, “We always deliver workshops off the field to support them on the field. It is really important that we have these open discussions on important topics such as mental health, talking about things we can do in everyday life to support our mental health."
