Best PhD thesis in the field of comparative economic studies
The prize is awarded by the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies
Peter Howard-Jones, lecturer and Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics at ֱ (ֱ) has won a prestigious prize for the best PhD thesis in the field of comparative economic studies. The prize is awarded by the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies. This reputable award is given to the work that, in the unanimous opinion of the jury, has the greatest potential to impact the field of comparative economic studies in the future. The thesis, “The Influence of the Washington Consensus Programme on the Transitional Economies of Eastern Europe - a Firm-Level Microeconomic Analysis”, explores the effectiveness of the Washington Consensus programme as a mechanism for improving national welfare in transition and emerging economies. Peter Howard-Jones has received an invitation to join the LSEE-CEFTA Academic Network which is part of LSE Research and is looking forward to strengthening his research capabilities. The prize was awarded during the virtual European Association for Comparative Economic Studies conference in September 2021. In his presentation to the conference, Peter recognised the significant support he received from his supervisors, Tim Lloyd and Khurshid Djalilov, and also from other academics within the ֱ Business School community.”

Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Foundation bursary
Spencer Barnett secured a £12,000 bursary from the for outstanding Accounting students who come from a low-income background, and either a neighbourhood with low participation in higher education (HE) or who is the first in their family to enter HE.
Higher Education Academy
Zara Ghodsi and Thanh Chu received their Fellow and Christopher Hartwell, Marta Disegna, and Davide Parrilli got the Senior Fellow.
Agricultural Economics Society
Olivia Placzek won the Prize for the Best Presentation by a PGR at the 92nd .
Regional Studies special issue
Davide Parrilli developed one of the few selected special issues of the journal Regional Studies on “Communities on the move and their impact on innovation and entrepreneurship”.
CISI Trust award
In May, David Salisbury (MSc Finance) won a Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) Educational Trust Award for outstanding success while studying at ֱ.
The awards annually celebrate achievement amongst students studying CISI accredited courses around the UK, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
ֱ postgraduate finance students victorious in Trading Challenge
Our Postgraduate Finance students were nominated winners in the in March. Two teams of postgraduate ֱ students competed in the challenge, which took place at the CASS Business School, participating in a number of competitions against seven other universities from across the UK.

European Association of Agricultural Economics
Professor Tim Lloyd, President of the Agricultural Economics Society, is now on the board of the European Association of Agricultural Economics for the next six years.
Olga Radzyner Award
Dr Edvard Orlic received the Olga Radzyner Award from the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) for his work on “Cross-sectoral FDI spillovers and their impact on manufacturing productivity”. The award is given to young economists for excellent research on topics of European economic integration and is conferred annually.
Higher Education Academy
Olivia Placzek and Edvard Orlic received their Fellow; Jens Hölscher, Phyllis Alexander, Frazer Ball, Sangeeta Khorana and Alan Kirkpatrick got the Senior Fellow.
